mPhase TV+ System Sets New Benchmarks for Ease of Service Creation, Reliability and Scalability.
NORWALK, Conn.-Oct. 11, 2004 - mPhase Technologies (OTCBB:XDSL) today announced the third generation release of its mPhase TV+ System, the most comprehensive carrier-grade solution to enable incumbent telephone companies around the world to offer interactive Internet Protocol (IP) video and data services over both copper and fiber-to-the-home networks.
The new release of the mPhase TV+ System is built around an innovative cluster architecture and offers key advantages to phone companies, including:
-- improved maintenance environment, with links to industry-standard operations support systems, including element management of IP traffic
-- compatibility with industry-standard services creation environments
-- transport media independence over copper or fiber facilities
-- high degree of reliability with "failover capability" that transfers traffic without interruption from a failing system to a back-up
-- unprecedented scalability, capable of growing to hundreds of thousands of users
The new mPhase TV+ System is a product being developed under an agreement between mPhase and Bell Labs, the R&D division of Lucent Technologies.
Ronald A. Durando, CEO of mPhase Technologies, emphasized the carrier-grade quality of the next generation mPhase TV+ System. "This solution has been designed from the ground up especially for service providers. It is not a retooled enterprise system or an evolved prototype. It applies mPhase's eight years of experience in telco TV and the superb network design skills of the Bell Labs development team to deliver flawless performance and maximize operator revenue," he said.
"Our new video switch platform creates a services creation and maintenance environment that sets telephone companies free to implement new revenue-rich services," said Durando. "They are not burdened by a shoe-horn solution, because the mPhase TV+ System makes services deployment a seamless add-on to their embedded infrastructure. Our system unifies the services environment across copper and fiber loops and accommodates multiple vendors of DSLAM and IP multi-casting equipment. It is a comprehensive pre-configured turnkey solution that has been tested for compatibility with their underlying network."
The cluster architecture of the newest mPhase TV+ System is the most dramatic improvement over current-generation telco TV solutions because it enables technical personnel to manage subscribers, monitor alarm messages and billing information and seek context-sensitive help across all network elements. Each central office-based cluster is designed to control and integrate video-on-demand and program information elements and the video head end encoding systems. Network planners can distribute the clusters to optimize the load balancing of the network resources for capabilities like content distribution. Through this segmentation, technicians can better manage subscriber demand and establish QoS criteria against failover.
The mPhase TV+ System is now in trial with a number of international operators. Customers can begin beta testing the new features before the end of 2004. mPhase recently extended its agreement with Bell Labs, the R&D arm of Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU), to evolve this solution into a fully tested end-to-end broadband offer supporting high quality and stable carrier-grade Internet Protocol TV services over DSL and fiber loops. General availability is forecast for 1Q2005.
